Warm Up Drill
Ball starts at A. Player runs with ball and makes a pass to the right on the move. Player on the right receives on the run and arcs before passing to player moving on the baseline. Player on baseline looks up for eye contact lead from player D – either 90, p-spot or far post area. Repeat on left hand side.
Key points:
- Footwork on pass 1
- Receiving on the run
- Connections on baseline
- 1st time slap finish

Technical Drills
Similar to the previous drill except the pass can come from the baseline too. This needs to be an angled pass to avoid being intercepted. The striker receives in the red zone and moves the ball away from goal ie the space an finishes with a snap squeeze shot. |
|
For this drill you need a right midfield or right half on an overlap who shapes to play a pass down the line. This should allow for a pass square to a striker leading back into the red zone. The striker does need to move to the baseline 1st to create the space to lead into. When in the zone allow the ball to pas across the body and onto the reverse stick for a shot at goal. Crucial is the timing of the pass and the lead. The striker must not be waiting there for the ball. Defenders will normally approach from the goal side opening up the reverse stick shot. | |
Tempo Drills
For this drill you need a couple of players to feed the striker. The striker starts near the keeper. 1st he leads to receive at position 1 and shoot with a snap squeeze shot , immediately to position 2 to receive and touch onto the reverse stick for a shot , then a sprint to position 3 for a deflection shot. The key to this drill is speed and timing, the feeders need to be alert and time their passes according to the lead and the striker needs to get to each position and get the shot away as quickly as possible. After 10 seconds you repeat the drill each player does 4 before changing, this will hopefully allow the striker to shoot when fatigued ie the best type of training. |
