Chelmsford leave comeback too late to earn pointFollowing a solid performance last weekend at home, Chelmsford were hoping that they would get something out of this fixture as they travelled away to Kent rivals, Maidstone. However, they were left feeling disappointed when a poor opening 20 minutes gave them an uphill battle to climb which, in the end, proved too big. Getting off to an extremely slow start, Chelmsford allowed their opposition to score within the first 10 minutes of the game. Chelmsford’s front line attacked well putting pressure on Maidstone’s defence, but the greens still were not fully switched on when the Kent team’s forwards fought back to gain possession and launch a quick counter attack. Chelmsford had no response and saw themselves facing a two goal deficit after just 15 minutes. With 15 minutes left in the first half Chelmsford were able to gain several attacking short corners, but were unable to make them count with Maidstone’s defence proving to be stronger and more composed on the ball. With both Chelmsford’s midfielders and defence working hard to keep them out of the 25 yards this was not enough and Maidstone managed to score again, taking a 3-0 lead into half time. The half time break allowed Chelmsford some time to switch on properly and they started off to a better second half, with some excellent work from Georgia Herron on the right midfield and Ally Farrar up front. Chelmsford were able to gain their composure and win a short corner, which Shenarda Dedic was strike home, pulling the score back to 3-1. Chelmsford kept their heads high knowing that the game wasn’t over and started to control the game. Some excellent saves from Chelsey Claridge meant that Maidstone were unable to build on their goal tally, leaving it to Chelmsford to try to find two goals in the closing period of the game. A second Dedic short corner conversion led to a nail biting last ten minutes with Chelmsford pushing for an equaliser. Unfortunately, time was not on their side, with the game finishing 3-2 and Chelmsford left reeling some early errors. |
