Chelmsford win in gutsy performanceChelmsford made a great start to the second half of the season with their first win. Despite not acquiring any new signings in the transfer window, they welcomed back Adam Hunter and Willy Hales. The first half started off very tense with Chelmsford knowing that a loss would create a massive mountain to climb. Chelmsford slowly got into the game and managed to work their way down the right on a number of occasions which were initiated by Ian Belchamber and also Elliott Seleska who slotted back into the Centre Midfield role after a spell at the back last year. Chelmsford took the lead through a short corner. Adrian Palmer’s flick fell to Ed Stanhope who finished into the bottom right hand corner from the left hand side of the circle with a solid strike. Chelmsford soon after conceded through a well worked short corner and based on the first half play, 1-1 at half times was a fair score with Chelmsford knowing their superior fitness could be a telling factor in the second half. Throughout the game, Indian Gymkhana’s skills were clear to see however Chelmsford maintained their discipline by not diving in and channelling them into corners which proved to be working. Chelmsford started the second half at a fast pace putting the opposition under pressure however a well worked short corner to the right was driven into the left corner with a great strike. Chelmsford needed to step up and be counted and one of the players who instigated this was Willy Hales. His ball carrying skills caused the Indian Gymkhana defence all sorts of problems which was rewarded with an assist when the ball for to him at the top of the d where his strike was deflected in by Ed Stanhope for his second goal of the game. However a draw was not enough for Chelmsford, they knew they needed the win to close the gap. With Chelmsford pushing for a win the challenges got fierce and the pressure intensified however Adrian Palmer and Sam Rayner in particular, remained composed and managed to win free hits in tight situations to relieve pressure. Chelmsford kept pushing as Indian Gymkhana tired and scored the goal they needed in the 58th minute. Josh Maleary wobbled through 2 players and forced the ball to the top of the circle where Adrian Palmer turned quickly and fired the ball into the goal with a powerful push to the delight of the Chelmsford players and spectators who came to watch. With 10 minutes left, Indian Gymkhana were down to 10 men receiving a yellow card for a poor tackle and breaking down play, however this did not stop them pushing through and putting the Chelmsford defence under a lot of pressure. They won several short corners that were dealt with including some great saves from goalkeeper Jason Evans and the help of the post on one occasion. |
