Chelmsford went into their last league match of the season knowing that a draw or win would definately prevent relegation. A change of tactics meant that the whole team were man to man marking from the starting whistle and that a high work rate was demanded of everyone. Chelmsford hassled the opposition and didn’t let ‘BromBeck’ settle on the ball. However the home side broke away down their right flank and squeezed the ball past the post beating Chelsey Clarridge in goal to go 1-0 up.

Chelmsford, however, continued to pressurise ‘BromBeck’ and won a short corner. Their keeper saved the initial shot but Karen Cooper was quick to react and slapped the ball into the net at waist height levelling the score. A few minutes later Shen Dedic played a defence splitting pass through to Ali Farrar who from a tight angle calmly pushed the ball past their keeper. Chelmsford were now leading 2-1.

The next part of the game was closely contested with both teams passing the ball round well. However, just before half-time ‘BromBeck’ won a short corner and a well struck hit found the target to make the score 2-2.

In the second half the Chelmsford defence made some strong tackles, in particular player of the match Anna Smith who had a great game playing just in front of the defence. Sarah Bolton in centre midfield drove the team forwards but Chelmsford couldn’t find the winning goal. With five minutes to go Bromley and Beckenham scored from open play. Chelmsford pushed forwards into their attacking circle still believing they could equalise but the final whistle meant that they had lost 3-2.

Chelmsford soon found out that they had avoided relegation and had finished out of the bottom 4 teams as another result had gone their way.

The Chelmsford Ladies 2nd XI would like to thank their captain Lisa Crane for all her hard work at the club over the past few years and wish her luck at her new club.
